I am SO excited about this new blog series!! My brides are so amazing and I’ve loved getting to know each and every one of them and building genuine friendships. I’ve always wanted to share more than just a few wedding pictures, and now I get to share these gorgeous brides with you during the week of their wedding so you get to know the couple behind the beautiful weddings I share.
Our first wedding of the year is going to be absolutely gorgeous and I cannot wait to share a few sneak peeks with you this weekend. But before we do that, I want you to get to know this super sweet couple. It has been so much fun getting to know Sarah and working with her to pull together all of the final details of her day. And those flowers she mentions? YOU GUYS. Just wait until you see them. A gorgeous ballroom, colorful blooms and magnolia leaves, a regal military wedding. I have been gushing about this wedding for months and it’s finally wedding week! I hope you enjoy meeting this amazing and gorgeous CSE Bride: Sarah as much as I have loved getting to know her.
Your Name: Sarah Downs
Your Groom’s Name: Jordan Stills
How did you meet? At Auburn’s Library
Complete this statement: We go together like chips and cheese dip.
When did you know he was the one? When he bought my plane ticket to Arkansas to meet his mother. (We had only been dating for maybe 2 months when he did this).
How did he pop the question? Did you see it coming? Did you cry, scream, tell him to shut up? This is quite a story. At the time, Jordan was living in Pensacola and decided to come up to Birmingham 2 weeks before my birthday to spend time with me. He arrived that morning to my mom’s house around 10 AM and I noticed that he had a gift in his hand. He handed it to me and said here this is from my mom, she said “Happy Birthday.” I went to the living room sat down with my mom and Jordan and started opening up the gift. Inside the bag was a beautiful tie dye blue patagonia that I have been wanting. As I am looking at the jacket, I am noticing that there is some tissue stuck in the pocket of the jacket. I pull that out and realize there is a ring wrapped in the tissue. (Side Note: I had no clue it was an engagement ring because I had told Jordan I wanted a David Yurman ring for my birthday.) SO I nonchalantly started trying to open up the tissue. Jordan gets so antsy he snatches the ring out of my hand and starts ripping the paper. Instantly when I saw the sparkle of the diamond through the paper, I started to hysterically crying. I was beyond stunned. Jordan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He then told me that he has another surprise. He had invited all of my best friends and family to come to my mom’s house and have an engagement party. This was the best weekend I have ever experienced. I felt very loved that weekend 🙂
When and where are you getting married? Why did you choose that time of year and setting? American Village January 16th. I chose American Village because Jordan is in the Navy and I figured the historical venue flowed well with our theme. January 16 really isn’t a significant date for us. We just chose that date because it was a 3 day weekend and we wanted all of our family to be able to travel from out of town to make our celebration.
Describe your wedding in three words: Military, Elegant, Regal
Tell us more!! We want to hear all about your style, colors, and must-haves! Where do I even begin…..My bridesmaids are wearing emerald green dresses. Jordan is wearing his Navy dress blues. I can’t tell you about what I am wearing because it is a secret ;). I did not really have 3 specific colors that I liked so for flowers I went with all colors. I really loved magnolia leaves so those will be incorporated into all flower arrangements, bouquets, etc. Most of the items in the reception hall are going to be gold (best color ever). I just had this vision of a grand ballroom filled with a lot of flowers and gold. Finally my vision is coming to life.
What is your favorite source for wedding inspiration? Pinterest and Weddingwire
What have you loved most about the planning experience? Every part of it!! I love to plan parties so this was right up my alley. If I could wedding plan as a second job I would.
What have you found to be the most difficult part of the process? Dealing with vendors.
What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day (besides saying “I Do!”)?! Our first look. I have decided that I want our first look to be under this gorgeous chandelier in the ballroom.I think that with him in uniform and me in my regal dress the photos are going to look awesome.
Are you taking a honeymoon? Where are you going and what do you plan to do? We are not taking a honeymoon right after the wedding because of work/Navy. We will be taking a 10 day cruise in July/August before Jordan is deployed to Japan.
Why is marriage so important to you to? What are you most excited or nervous about? I am just so happy that I have found someone that loves me more than life. Jordan is the man I have been waiting for and I am so happy that I found him in the library that night. 🙂 I am not nervous about the wedding, I am just ready for it to be here. I know my work buddies are ready for the wedding to be here too because all I have been doing this week is daydream about my big day.
Do you have any advice for those brides-to-be just getting started in the planning process? Enjoy every moment! Best advice that I was ever given was have a long engagement. This truly helped with the wedding process. I was able to meet with 6 different florist, 5 caterers, etc. It gave me time to figure out what I really wanted.
