CONGRATULATIONS!! You said yes! We have absolutely loved seeing all of the sparkly new rings in our timelines the last couple of weeks! This is such a fun and exciting season, but as you begin to plan your big day, a little bit of overwhelm has set in and you aren’t sure where to turn first. You said yes! Now what?! Below are a few of the first steps you’ll want to take to start planning your wedding!
Here are a few things you’ll want to make sure are at the top of your list as you begin to plan the day of your dreams.
Set Your Budget. This is going to set the stage for everything that will follow, so it’s important to know what you’re working with right out of the gate. Have a talk with your fiance and parents to determine who will contribute, what will and will not be included in the budget, and what the overall number is.
Determine Your Guest List. The size of your guest list plays a large part in determining how your budget is best allocated, and will also come into play while planning other areas of your day, such as venue and staffing needs. Many couples find this one of the most difficult parts of the process, so getting this handled in the beginning makes for smooth planning throughout the rest of your engagement season.
Choose your Month or Season. Unless you have a specific date in mind for a special reason, like the anniversary of your first date, we recommend choosing a month or season instead, leaving the specific date open for now. This will allow you to find the perfect venue without any limitations. You don’t want to find your perfect venue only to find out you can’t book it because a specific date isn’t available!
Hire a Wedding Planner. It’s no surprise that we’re big advocates of hiring a wedding planner to help you through the planning process. And the earlier you connect with your planner, the more they’re going to be able to help you. You plan your once-in-a-lifetime day once, while your planner is a professional who plans them regularly. This is one expense you’ll want to be absolutely sure is in your budget!
Begin Researching Venues. You’ve set your budget, determined your guest list, chosen your desired month or season, and hired your planner. Now it’s time to start the planning fun by researching and choosing your venue. From there all the other vendors, logistics, and design will begin to fall into place and you’ll see your dream day shaping up!
